About MoniqueSerpasPT

My name is Monique Serpas, PT, DPT, OCS. I am a physical therapist and board-certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist practicing at the Southeast Louisiana Healthcare System in New Orleans, LA. I realize how difficult it can be to overcome an injury or manage a chronic condition and am focused on helping my clients achieve wellness through a physically active lifestyle. I treat orthopaedic, balance, and vestibular disorders and practice using a combination of hands-on manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and education. This enables my patients to assist in their own recovery and injury prevention. I also have developed fall prevention and golf-related rehab programs in the past. I hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Concordia University Wisconsin (2008) and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University (2004). I am a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Louisiana Physical Therapy Association (LPTA), and the Orthopaedic and Neurology sections of the APTA.

October 9, 2010

Someone stopped into the clinic yesterday with a hamstring strain asking what type of stretches she should be doing.  She also mentioned that someone recommended she put heat on it.  First question is always “When did this occur?”  “Yesterday.”  “Well, in that case, use PRICE.”  For 24-48 hours following an injury I recommend PRICE. Protection:  […]

“It’s funny how this is so hard when I close my eyes,” the patient says as I stand guard ready at any moment should a sway turn into a fall.  Actually it makes sense.  Our balance relies on input from our eyes, muscles, and inner ear.  When you take one of those three inputs away […]

Planks are a great exercise to work on your core strength, posture, and abs and I use them frequently in physical therapy.  If you haven’t ever done these before you should consider giving them a try to improve your strength and stability, also known to trim a muffin top.  Be sure when you do planks […]

Clicking Through “Forced Use”

Like most people, I’m right-handed.  So when I switched my mouse yesterday to click using my left hand, naturally it felt well, UNnatural.  Using a mouse with your non-dominant hand is about as frustrating as not being able to buy “You’re the Best” for your ipod unless you buy the entire Karate Kid soundtrack or […]

Today I helped a high school athlete return to competing in a cross country meet and not only that, meet a personal best and without knee pain.  In just 2 short sessions.  Ok, so I know I’m  bragging, but I was really proud of this accomplishment, which was 75% the effort of my patient and […]
